Background
Organisations are continuing to shed bureaucratic and hierarchical management styles and adopt more flexible, matrix-type structures. In turn, the emphasis in business units is shifting towards team working and multi-disciplinary units. Although the importance of such groups to the overall success of organisations cannot be overstated, most 'teambuilding' programmes focus only on the contribution made by individual team members. Few programmes attempt to integrate both individual and group factors into a single, cohesive developmental framework. However, since the effectiveness of any team will depend on both the attributes of individual members and on the overall team climate, it makes sense to incorporate both into the process. Such a combination represents a powerful tool in maximising the flexibility and efficiency of the work group.
Objectives
The principal objectives of our management team building programme are to:
- Develop each individual's understanding of their relevant strengths, limitations, motivations and leadership styles relative to other people.
- Improve communication between members and enhance group decision making.Provide individuals with an understanding of their most effective roles within the management team.
- Instil an awareness of the overall Management Team function, and facilitate development of the team's 'vision'.
- Accurately assess co-operative styles of working, and explore the 'climate' in which the team is currently operating.
- Search for improvements in the team's climate and highlight potential problems.
- Encourage the group as a whole to recognise the varied contributions of other individuals within the team.
- Provide a starting point for further individual and team intervention strategies.

How
Using a variety of psychometric questionnaires, individual counselling sessions and group exercise / awareness classes, this new approach to team building offers the management group the opportunity to assume responsibility for their own working practises and, ultimately, the success of the organisation. The programme is structured over several weeks, which in itself encourages the 'building' aspect of team development. Each session advances the group at an individual as well as a team level. This approach has the added advantage of avoiding the management team being absent from the workplace for extended periods. CLICK HERE FOR A SAMPLE PROGRAMME.
